“Bravery: On Wings Like Eagles” – It Sucks!


Note: This is a rant.
Bravery: On Wings Like Eagles is an upcoming “Christian science fiction” movie.
I’ve only seen the trailer. But: Just from the trailer, I can tell “This movie is bad.”
Watch this trailer and ask yourself “Would I spend $15 to buy a ticket to watch this movie?”
I’m a Catholic.
I consider myself to be (mostly) politically conservative.
I don’t want to face persecution. (Who does?)
And I love science fiction.
My point is: I am the audience for this movie.
And yet I hate it.
I hate the TV-show-in-the-90s special effects. Actually. TV shows in the 90s had better-looking special effects than Bravery.
I hate the preachiness. The message is so obvious and in-my-face. Apparently these Christians don’t realize that Jesus, at the end of giving a parable, never said “This is what my parable means!”
I hate the black-and-white characters. No human being is pure good, and no human being is pure evil. In the words of Sirius Black: “We all have light and dark inside of us. What matters is the part we choose to act on…”

Bravery: On Wings Like Eagles is a waste of time and resources.
It is an insult to the art of filmmaking.
It is an insult to peoples’ intelligence.
And it is an insult to the Christian faith.
I have no doubt that if Jesus saw that this was the best his followers could do, he’d do this:
Jesus
If you want to see a science fiction story that:
Doesn’t talk to you like you’re an idiot.
Has three-dimensional characters.
Deals with subjects like religion and fighting against oppression.
Than watch the anime series Eureka Seven. All 50 episodes of it are on Netflix.
When are Christians going to realize that goodness, truth, and beauty can come from non-Christians, too?
“He has put eternity in the human heart.” (Ecclesiastes 3:11)
“…whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things.” (Philippians 4:8)
